TIDE: Visual Arts Application


Our school offers TIDE for Visual Arts in grades K-8. This program is designed to provide students who have demonstrated exceptional artistic talent with opportunities to develop their skills and pursue their artistic passions. The TIDE program for Visual Arts is a program that focuses on challenging each student based on their individual skill level. Students identified in grades K – 1 will receive opportunities through differentiation in their general education and art classrooms. In grades 2 – 8, students will receive experiences that occur outside of the classroom.
The TIDE Visual Arts is taught by our experienced and talented art teachers who are committed to fostering creativity and helping students reach their full potential. In this program, students will engage in a variety of art projects that challenge and inspire them, including drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art.
Students who participate in this program will benefit from personalized instruction and guidance as they explore different art techniques and develop their own unique style.
Students who are best suited for gifted and talented demonstrate the following qualities:
- Elaborates on other people’s ideas and uses them as a jumping-off point instead of copying from others.
- Shows a unique selection of art media for individual activities or classroom projects.
- Has unusual and richly imaginative ideas.
- Composes with unusual detail and skill.
- Consistently demonstrates a love for creating art.
The Application Process
The application process is as follows:
*For students currently participating in the program during the current school year and would like to continue:
- Current TIDE Visual Arts students will be completing a reflection interview with the TIDE teacher.
- Guardians, please fill out the following Microsoft form (tinyurl.com/MESVisualArtsContinuation) to remain in the program by the deadline.
*New students looking to apply for the upcoming school year:

New students who apply must receive at least one nomination using the Student Nomination Form to be completed by a teacher, parent, or art teacher. |

New students will complete a “Display of Work Portfolio” to submit with their nomination. The Display of Work portfolio should represent the best work of the student with the following requirements: |

a) |
Three works of art showcasing the student’s ability that have been completed within the last 12 months. Please see the examples shown below of qualifying art in the table below. |

b) |
The other two works can also be in school projects or work created at home. |
|
|
|
c) |
At least one project should be completed in Ms. Wyville or Mrs. Rostron’s art classes. |

|
|
d) |
The student must complete an Artwork Reflection Sheet for each work submitted. |
|
|
|
|
i) |
If the student cannot complete the Artwork Reflection Sheet, a parent/guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult may complete the form through an interview process with the student. |

Student work will be scored based on the qualities described above and those students who obtain a qualifying score will be offered placement into TIDE: Visual Arts for the following school year.
